The experience

A narrated digital audio guide to St Peter's Basilica — twenty stops, on your own phone — together with a timed entry reservation for the Basilica.

Entry to St Peter's Basilica is free for everyone, so what this product adds is not the entry: it is the time. We hold a partner account with the Fabbrica di San Pietro and we buy a named, timed reservation for each person in your booking, then forward it to you digitally before your date. Nobody meets you: it all arrives by email.

Please read this, because it is the part people get wrong: the reservation gives you a time, not an exemption. Everyone passes the security check, and the Basilica's own wording is that the visit begins after QR code verification and security checks.

The reservation is issued in the name of each visitor and cannot be transferred, so we need the full name and date of birth of everyone in the booking when you book. Because we buy the reservations from the Basilica in advance, bookings close three days before your date.

The audio guide itself is the same one we sell on its own, in Italian, English, Spanish, French and German, written in each language rather than translated.

This product does not have a meeting point and nobody is waiting for you anywhere. Booking systems require an address, so the address shown is our office address in Piazza della Citta Leonina. Do not go there: go straight to St Peter's Square with the audio already on your phone. Your access code arrives by email as soon as you book, and the audio downloads to your phone over any connection.

The first three stops are outside: Bernini's colonnade while you wait, the facade and the window the Pope speaks from, and the portico with its five doors. They are written to be listened to standing in the queue, so the wait is part of the route rather than time lost.

What’s included

Included

  • Timed entry reservation for St Peter's Basilica, one per person, issued in your name
  • Narrated digital audio guide to St Peter's Basilica — 20 stops, 54 to 68 minutes depending on the language
  • Five languages: Italian, English, Spanish, French, German
  • Offline use on your own phone, downloaded before you go in

Not included

  • Any exemption from the security check — everyone passes it
  • A human guide
  • Headphones (bring your own earphones)
Before you go — entry rules & tickets
  • Dress code: shoulders covered, trousers or skirts to the knee, no hats inside
  • Dress code is enforced at the entrance: shoulders covered, and trousers or skirts that reach the knee. Hats must be removed inside the church. Visitors who do not meet the dress code are turned away at the security check, and this is the Basilica's rule, not ours.
  • Everyone passes a security check before entering. Queues for the security check exist at all hours and are outside anyone's control.
  • There is no cloakroom. Bring only a small bag or a small backpack.
Accessibility & practical notes
  • Full name and date of birth of every participant, at the time of booking
  • Photo identification for each participant, to be shown on site
  • A smartphone with earphones and free storage
  • Bring your own earphones: headphones are not provided. Keep your phone on silent inside the church.
  • Make sure your phone has battery and free storage: the audio is downloaded before you go in and then plays without a connection.
  • The Basilica asks visitors not to take photographs, even for personal use.
  • Children are welcome. The Basilica recommends a minimum age of 6, and visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • You may bring your own pushchair. Pushchairs are not available on site.
  • Assistance animals are admitted with certification, to be shown on site. Other animals are not admitted.
  • Step-free access with a ramp is available for visitors with disabilities and for pregnant women. We have not verified full wheelchair accessibility ourselves and we do not claim it.
  • The Vatican Grottoes, the last stop of the audio, are not accessible from 18:00. If you go in late in the day, that stop may not be available to you.
  • The Basilica may close, in part or entirely, for celebrations and ceremonies. When that happens it is decided by the Fabbrica di San Pietro and announced on the day.
  • The reservation is issued in each visitor's name and cannot be transferred or changed to another person.
  • Bookings close three days before the date: we need that time to buy your reservations from the Basilica and send them to you.
